Enjoy Your Fortress of Solitude
The past few weeks have felt surreal, sometimes it feels like I am living in the twilight zone with all the chaos happening around the world.
Watching the news daily to keep ourselves updated with COVID-19 can become very overwhelming, discouraging and flat out SCARY!!!!
My family is staying at home – we are isolating as much as possible and exercising proper social distance during this pandemic and trying to do our part to help make sure this virus is contained quickly. I hope everyone is staying safe and following the advice given by our healthcare providers.
Schools, day cares, soccer camps have been cancelled for now for my two children until further notice.
This can be a difficult time for parents and children to be isolated for such a long period of time especially when it feels like there is “no end in sight”
Times like this calls for the simple things, its so easy to get caught up in life that we often forget that we don’t always have to be busy; we don’t always need to look to a schedule to determine how our day is going to go, Trust me this is hard for me since I can be a little OCD with time management.
We need to remind ourselves that it’s ok to slow it all down and enjoy the simple things in life and going back to things we enjoyed doing when we were growing up.
Unplug and take a break with your family, play that boardgame that’s collecting dust in your basement that you forgot you bought the kids over the holidays or maybe get a deck of cards out and play a simple game of Go Fish, Old Maid or one of my all time favorites WAR. Build that Lego tower your kids have been bugging you about to build or crack open that photo album – Remember when we use to print photographs and stick them in a book – yah that one – crack that photo album with your family and take a stroll down memory lane.
Go out for a walk and enjoy the fresh air -keeping your social distance, of course or stay in and burn that candle you have been saving for a special occasion.
There are going to be days where you just want to rip all your hair out from your head from all the chaos your kiddies and your partner will bring but remember to find the joy in it as well.
Remember we will all have bad days and negative emotions, but you have to realize its important to sit with it and let it pass, and if it doesn’t pass, choose a thought that will help it pass.
Take this time to do the little things in life that gets pushed aside when our lives get so busy, reconnect with those things, we must never forget to enjoy the little things because they are never as little as we think.
Everyone please stay safe; we are all in this together!
